Dear Summer Online Students: Currently, my spring courses are in full swing. Below, you will find the syllabi and handouts for all my classes--122, 126, and 223. I have the online site up and ready to go for the summer English 126, and once you are enrolled through DVC and buy the textbook, you will be able to get on the site. What is crucial for the online class is that you buy a book with a log in code. For 126, the book with the log in code is the Goshgarian text. You will need to buy this book from the DVC bookstore. If you buy the book used, you can go to the URL for the class site as listed below and buy the code separately. Here is the information that course compass provides: How students enroll To enroll in a typical single-semester course, a student needs to have: · Student access code – Students either get a code in the Student Access Kit bundled with their textbook or they can purchase access to a course online while they are enrolling in it by using a credit card. Important: Each student access code is nontransferable and can be used by only one student. · Course ID – This number, which identifies your particular course, consists of your last name followed by five digits, such as Wong63229. You must give your students the course ID before they can enroll. (You can find that information below, please look under the following chart.) A student performs the following steps to enroll in a single-semester course. If a student needs assistance, copy these instructions to a document or e-mail message to the student. 1. Log in to CourseCompass. 2. On the My CourseCompass page, do one of the following: o Click Enroll in Another Course in the Courses area. o Click Details next to any course in the Courses area, then click Enroll in Another Course. o Click Account Summary in the top-right corner, then click Enroll in Another Course. 3. Enter the course ID for your new course, and click Next. 4. Do one of the following:
5. (Optional) Print the confirmation screen to retain a record of your login name and password. IMPORTANT NOTES: This is NOT a WebCT courses but courses run through another server (see above). Don't wait for your class to show up on WebCT list, as they just will not. I am expecting you to log on the first day of class and get started right away. I do not allow excuses for log on issues, inability to buy books, etc. Get the book, get the code, and get started. Below, you will find the instructions for buying the books, registering for the class, logging onto the course site, and starting. ONE LAST NOTE: Having you come onto my site is not some marketing ploy. I am lucky to have this site, and I've been able to create these pages for you, my students. Sure, if you'd like to look around, please do! But this way, I don't have to create another domain name, and can work on all aspects of my site at once. Online students: In order for you to participate in your online class, first, you MUST register for either 126 or 223 at Diablo Valley College, depending on your class. If you are not on the roster and somehow decide to do the instructions below, I will block your access from the course site. You will, sadly, be unable to return your book because you will have opened the books and used the registration code. IAlso--please note that I do NOT know the technical aspects of the site. I don't run it or know how to fix issues. Periodically, the server will go down, so it's wise to get your work posted in a timely fashion. All technical issues need to be directed to the site technicians. If you feel that the technology is too much, I would recommend another course. My
recommendation is to follow the steps correctly or you will be the proud owner of a book for a course you cannot participate in. Follow the instructions above. Please make sure you register ONLY for the class you are enrolled in. This is important, otherwise, you will appear on other rosters. Complete your registration and log on process, and then go into the course. Please read the syllabus very carefully. After that, read through all the course compass site information, especially the Discussion Boards. Then play around on the site so that you understand what’s going on. I’ll “see” you all
in the middle of January. Be ready to start on the appropriate date. Just
because this is an online class does not mean there aren't due dates.
