Dear Students:

Spring 2010 122 on-land students:  Your syllabi can be found below.

Spring  2010 online students:  The information you will need to log onto your course site is below, but the classes will not be available to you until December 21st.  At that point, you can follow all the directions below and get onto your course

You will find below the important information you will need and the directions to go about getting logged on  You can also read the syllabus for the class.  Please read all the way through this message.  Then, hold on, buy your textbooks, and follow all of the directions after December 21st.

What is crucial for the online class is that you buy a book with a log in code.  For 126, the book with the log in code is the Goshgarian text.  For 223, it is the Burroway text.  You will need to buy one of these books from the DVC bookstore.  If you buy the book used, you can go to the URL for the class site as listed below and buy the code separately.  Here is the information that course compass provides:

How students enroll online:

To enroll in a typical single-semester course, a student needs to have:

·         Student access code – Students either get a code in the Student Access Kit bundled with their textbook or they can purchase access to a course online while they are enrolling in it by using a credit card.

Important: Each student access code is nontransferable and can be used by only one student.

·         Course ID – This number, which identifies your particular course, consists of your last name followed by five digits, such as Wong63229. You must give your students the course ID before they can enroll.  (You can find that information below, please look under the following chart.)

IMPORTANT NOTES:  This is NOT a WebCT courses but courses run through another server (see above).  Don't wait for your class to show up on WebCT list, as they just will not.

I am expecting you to log on the first day of the semester and get started right away.  I do not allow excuses for log on issues, inability to buy books, etc.  Get the book, get the code, and get started.

Below, you will find the instructions for buying the books, registering for the class, logging onto the course site, and starting.

Online students:  In order for you to participate in your online class, first, you MUST register for either 122 or 223 at Diablo Valley College, depending on your class. If you are not on the roster and somehow decide to do the instructions below, I will block your access from the course site. You will, sadly, be unable to return your book because you will have opened the books and used the registration code.

Also--please note that I do NOT know the technical aspects of the site. I don't run it or know how to fix issues.  Periodically, the server will go down, so it's wise to get your work posted in a timely fashion.  All technical issues need to be directed to the site technicians.  If you feel that the technology is too much, I would recommend another course.

My recommendation is to follow the steps correctly or you will be the proud owner of a book for a course you cannot participate in.
After you have successfully registered for the class, then you will purchase the textbooks (and the code) for the class.

Then, go to this web site: http://www.coursecompass.com

Follow the instructions above.

Please make sure you register ONLY for the class you are enrolled in.  This is important, otherwise, you will appear on other rosters.
