What People are Saying About "The Beautiful Being"...

This is truly a beautiful tale, one that gives readers a wonderful look into a world just beginning. Many questions are asked, but there are very few answers, so Inclán's novel has a certain philosophical feel. Readers are sure to find this a fast, intriguing and lovely tale.

Summary: The world of Cygiria has been destroyed, its remaining people left on another planet where they must fight to rebuild a culture they can hardly remember. Destined to find their one true love, Edan and Ava have lived a life of loneliness and anger without each other. Ava uses cooking to find a purpose in her life, while Edan has been put in charge of their world and future well-being. Once they find each other, they begin to realize their people's true power and how it can save them from their enemies, the Neballats. But when evil intervenes with good intentions, love must work to truly conquer all. (ZEBRA, Oct., 272 pp., $13.00) MILD

The Planet of Upsilia - Present Day

The Cygirians are a race of people with powers unlike any most in the world can imagine. Each of them possesses a gift----it could be the ability to make electricity, travel through space, or one of many other talents. Each also has a twin, not a sibling as we would imagine, but a match to their power, a person who completes them. Cygirians without their twins aren’t whole, and in some cases, they are even a danger to themselves. A group like this holds much promise, but they’ve long been hunted by the Neballats, a race of people who seem bent on destroying everything they touch and are determined to use the Cygirians for their own benefit. Now it’s up to two Cygirians, Edan and Ava (twins who haven’t yet met) to band together with their people and destroy the danger the Neballats pose forever.

When Edan and Ava finally meet, they must decide whether to embrace the love they’ve both been yearning for, or turn away from it and seek the safety of solitude. After all, love lost is bound to be more painful than love never realized, and with the Neballats breathing down their necks, their future is perilous indeed.

Will they embrace a future together? Can they save their people? The answers to those questions await you in the pages of the third and final book in The Cygirians series.

In THE BEAUTIFUL BEING, two people who’ve been longing for the most sacred of blessings, real love, are brought together to find it, as well as the answer to problems every sentient race will come upon at some point. Edan Mirav is the leader of his people; unfortunately, he doesn’t want to be. He’d much rather be a part of the group, instead of the center of it. However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t a great leader. Persuasive, intelligent, and far-seeing, he’s a determined man who’s more than capable of leading the Cygirians into the future. Especially once he meets Ava. Now there’s a woman who, from the outside at least, seems to have it all. She’s a talented cook, her appearance is flawless, her beauty undeniable. But deep down she’s in great pain. Always alone, she doesn’t have a friend to call her own, and despite the fact that she’s a capable woman, she feels unlovable and unnecessary. Of course, that’s before she meets Edan. Two souls who could never reach their full potential without each other, together they may just change the future of all races, Cygirian, Upsilian, Human, and even the Neballats.

If you’ve been reading this series from the beginning, you’re sure to recognize many of the secondary characters. Edan’s younger sisters, Mila and Claire, as well as their respective mates, Garrick and Darl, are present and accounted for. Their stories are told in the first two books, BEING WITH HIM, February 2008, and INTIMATE BEINGS, October 2008. Also unforgettable are Stephanie and Porter, the electric twins. Stephanie becomes Ava’s first real friend in this tale, and Porter, well, he’s his usual sarcastic, I mean forthright, self. Despite the fact that they are enemies, there is one among the Neballats who offers the Cygirians aid, Luoc. Granted, his help takes a funny form, and one could even say that his aid is potentially very destructive, but I’m sure he thinks he’s being helpful.

Any story filled with alien races, mystical powers, and far away places is bound to be interesting. In this case, the world Jessica Inclán has created takes on a dreamy, slightly surreal cast that can’t help but make you contemplate greater things than just romance. Where did life begin? What is the purpose? How can people who will never be the same ever truly understand and appreciate each other? I won’t suggest that the answer to all of these questions is in this book, that would be silly, but it will make you think about them, and maybe that’s enough. Oh yeah, and it’s a fun read as well. Thought I’d better mention that lest you think it’s all too heavy. ;-) If you’re looking for something a bit different, you can’t miss Edan and Ava’s tale, THE BEAUTIFUL BEING.

The Beautiful Being by Jessica Barksdale Inclán
Paranormal Romance - Sept. 29, 2010
4 Stars

The Beautiful Being is the satisfying conclusion to Jessica Inclán's Being series. In this book the author finishes the absorbing story of the Mirav family with Edan's story. I have really anticipated Edan's book because his character is so appealing and I wondered how the author would resolve his past.

Edan is a tragic and heroic figure. The leader of a people hunted for their special abilities, he carries a terrible burden. Edan's people all have talents and if they are lucky they find their twin or double with the opposite talent that complements and completes them. However, Edan is cursed with a talent that ages him and if he isn't careful it might kill him. He has already prematurely aged himself. Unable to find his perfect match, Edan feels he is destined to die alone.

Ava wishes for the impossible, her double or twin. But time has past and no man pulls to her, nor has she heard of a man with powers that complement her own. She is tortured by dreams of a man who always leaves and always wakes up feeling dissatisfied and unwanted. Although she actively helps in her peoples rebuilding efforts, she feels her actions are empty and meaningless.

I really enjoyed the characters in this story; they were: vulnerable, likable and very easy to relate to. I find the idea of twins that complement each other extremely fascinating. (Wish there was more of this series slated to be published! I feel there are so many different twins with different talents that could be explored.) Jessica Inclán excels at delving into the inner psyche of her creations and bringing them to life. However, areas not related to the relationship between the characters I found somewhat confusing. I still have a feeling of not quite understanding the enemy and the Source which seemed like a spiritual place. However, the general feeling I believe the author wanted to portray, a journey toward peace, forgiveness, and completion was conveyed. As a result, I did find the conclusion of this book filled me with great satisfaction and happiness for the couple.

While watching the other Cygirians on the construction site, Ava Arganos is feeling completely alone. Most of the others have found their twins and are working together to create Talalo, a city where all Cygirians can feel at home. Ava knows she should be doing something to help with the building or join the planning group in Dhareilly, finding some way to help in the creation of their new home. Most of the time, though, Ava, felt that she was in the way, worrying that she would never find her twin and that her power would never be fully realized. Ava returned to the shelter, knowing that her talent for cooking was the power most appreciated by the others, and in that way, at least, she knew she was needed.

Edan Mirav was facing another long meeting with the Upsilian Council, working on the agreement to allow the Cygirians to maintain their city in the desert. The stress was taking its toll on his body, aging him rapidly, though Edan did his best to hide it. He had no desire to feel old and tired now, just when the Cygirians were so close to creating their sanctuary. He accepted the responsibility of leadership, enjoyed the sense of belonging, but Edan still felt alone without his twin. Somewhere, there was that one woman whose power complemented his, and together, they could keep the Cygirians safe from future harm. Once Edan returned to the Talalo building site, he could relax a little, and maybe then he could determine how to successfully lead his people by himself.

Ava and Edan shared the same fear of being alone without their twins, and I found it interesting that they fought against something they so obviously wanted. Once they admitted their need to each other, I was amazed at what they were able to accomplish. Edan’s need for a safe harbor and a history led him to some interesting adventures, and Ava proved herself to be a true partner when she saves him from himself. Once again, Jessica Inclan has shown us a realistic and believable world in another realm, and I thoroughly enjoyed every word.

The Beautiful Being is the third and final book in Jessica Inclán’s paranormal romance trilogy, which includes the books Intimate Beings and Being With Him. It is the story of Edan and Ava, exiled from their destroyed home of Cygiria and stuck on a hostile and unfamiliar planet.  They both know their “double” is out there -- the one who will complete their soul and strengthen their power -- but they have not found each other yet.  While Edan performs his duties as the reluctant leader of the stranded Cygirians, Ava’s heart slowly hardens, convinced that her double will never find her. But they are destined to be together, and their union explodes with passion and the surprising realization that they are more powerful than they ever could have imagined.  Together, with what’s left of their orphaned people, they must fight for the very survival of their species.

In this sexy and surprisingly thoughtful paranormal adventure, Inclán explores ideas of home, love, and war through the eyes of an alien people whose hearts greatly resemble our own.  The Beautiful Being is a thrilling and magical ride through a world that mirrors the very best and worst of us.  It is the story of the purest, most passionate love possible, and what a united people are capable of when faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
